SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball returned to the win column with their eighth sweep of the season with the win against LeTourneau, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20, on Friday at Hughey Gymnasium on the campus of Austin College.
With the win, the Bulldogs (15-5, 7-0 SCAC) improved to 7-0 in SCAC play for their best start to conference play since 2008, when the Bulldogs went 17-1 in the American Southwest Conference (ASC).
After missing last Saturday's contests,
Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) had an outstanding match, with 11 kills and two blocks and a .611 hitting percentage.
Briana Salvatierra-Moore (San Antonio/Antonian College Prep) finished with ten kills, two aces and a block.
Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) had eight kills and a block, while
Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) added five kills.
Ella Waterbury (Buda/Johnson) finished with 21 assists, two aces, a kill, and nine digs.
Ava Search (Richmond/Needville) led the team with 19 digs to go with five kills and two blocks.
Despite being held to a .150 hitting percentage in the opening set of the match, the Bulldogs were able to take the first set 25-23 in a back-and-forth start to Friday's action. The Bulldogs were led by four kills from Lozano-Lomeli in the opening set.
The second set saw the Bulldogs lead by as many as many as nine points before taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 set win behind four kills from Salvatierra-Moore.
Texas Lutheran finished the final set of the match limiting LeTourneau to a match low, .163 hitting percentage. Salvatierra-Moore and Solis sealed the victory for the Bulldogs with four kills each.
Texas Lutheran will conclude its SCAC Divisional Weekend in Sherman on Saturday, Oct. 24 as they conclude their crossover weekend with matchups against Centenary and Austin College. First serve is set for 10 AM and 9:15 PM.
