LONGVIEW, Texas -- #RV Texas Lutheran (12-4, 7-0 SCAC) blew out LeTourneau (4-12, 1-6 SCAC) on the road 84-61 in Solheim Arena for the Bulldogs eighth straight victory.
Four of the five TLU starters scored in double digits.
Senior
Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a block. Redshirt junior
Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) followed closely behind, adding 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Senior guard
Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) earned ten points, six assists, and two rebounds along with two steals and a block.
Callista Perez (San Antonio/Stevens) finished with ten points to go with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Junior
Jaidyn Treviño (Austin/Akins) scored ten points off the bench to complement her three steals.
Davi'Yanna Jones got the scoring started with a three before the teams traded baskets into the first media timeout with TLU leading 14-10. The Bulldogs closed the first quarter with a 19-16 lead led by nine points from
Davi'Yanna Jones.
Lauren Sansano hit the first field goal for TLU in the second quarter at the 9:05 mark on a layup. It was another relatively even period in the second as the Bulldogs combined to outscore the YellowJackets 16-13.
TLU ended the half up 35-29.
Davi'Yanna Jones led all scorers going into the half with 13 points.
Lauren Sansano followed with eight points and two assists.
Sarahi Jones started the second half in a dominant fashion, scoring the Bulldogs' first seven points. TLU ended the third on a 17-4 run capped off by a fastbreak layup from Trevño in the quarters closing moments. The Bulldogs held their largest lead of the game entering the fourth, holding a 23-point lead after outscoring the YellowJackets 30-13 in the third led by nine from
Sarahi Jones and eight from Treviño.
Callista Perez got the scoring started for TLU in the fourth, with her collecting a steal and taking it coast to coast for a fastbreak layup to give the Bulldogs a 25-point lead. The Bulldogs coasted the rest of the way for a 23-point victory.
TLU led in field goal percentage, shooting 49.2 percent to LeTourneau's 35.5 percent in the game. TLU led 45 to 34 in rebounding, including 13 offensive boards.
TLU's road trip has been cut short due to winter weather causing Saturday's game against Centenary to be postponed thus the Bulldogs will return to Seguin to continue their conference home slate on Friday, January 30 against St. Thomas at Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
