Bulldogs Shut Out Howard Payne

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team shut out Howard Payne, 5-0, Sunday evening at a wet Gustafson Field. The Bulldogs improve to 2-1-1 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-4. The win marks TLU's eighth straight win over Howard Payne dating back to 2014.

Sophomore Evan Pacheco (San Antonio/Central Catholic) scored two goals in the game for his first career brace and added an assist. Evan Bremauntz (Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage), Preston Huff (Houston/Cy Fair), and Raymond Palmer (San Antonio/Clark) added their first goals of the season with Palmer's being the first of his career.

Jesus Carrillo (San Antonio/Reagan), Jayden Franke (San Antonio/Johnson), and DJ Sassenhagen IV (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) joined Pacheco in having an assist on the evening.

After Howard Payne went down a man just two minutes into the match, the Bulldogs got on the board in the 9th minute as Evan Pacheco set up Evan Bremauntz for his first goal of the season following a TLU corner.

Texas Lutheran doubled its lead in the 21st minute as Evan Pacheco scored his first of two goals before completing the brace just three minutes later via an assist from Sassenhagen IV, nutmegging the Yellow Jackets keeper in the process.

Just over a minute later, a cross from Jayden Franke led to a header from Raymond Palmer to extend the TLU lead to 4-0.

After missing most of last season due to injury, Preston Huff netted his first goal of the season flicking in a cross from Jesus Carrillo in the 49th minute for the final goal of the match and only goal in the second half.

The Bulldogs dominated the Yellow Jackets finishing the match with a 28-4 shot advantage, a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal, and 13-0 advantage in corners.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 12, as they welcome rival, 11th-ranked Trinity to Gustafson Field. Kickoff in Seguin is set for 7:30 PM and will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
