Bulldogs Drop Match Against Rivals No. 6 Trinity

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team fell to No. 6 Trinity, 1-0, Friday night at Gustafson Field in their first of two top 25 rivalry games this weekend. The Bulldogs fall to 2-2-1 on the season while the Tigers remain perfect at 4-0-0.

It is just the third loss for the Bulldogs in Seguin dating back to the beginning of the 2022 season with two of the losses coming to top ten ranked squads.

Freshman Ernesto Avila (Houston/Humble) made five saves to give Texas Lutheran a chance at the upset. The game was scoreless until an 86th minute goal from the Tigers broke the draw.

The Tigers outshot the Bulldogs, 15-2, including a 5-0 edge in shots on goal. Trinity held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The best scoring chances from Texas Lutheran came from Max Guzman (San Marcos/San Marcos) and Raymond Palmer (San Antonio/Clark) but one attempt was blocked and the other was off target.

Texas Lutheran will have another chance against a ranked opponent on Sunday, Sept. 14 as they travel to face their rivals, No. 13 Southwestern. Kickoff from Georgetown is set for 2 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
