LONGVIEW, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team closed the opening weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play on Sunday evening with a 1-0 victory at LeTourneau in the two teams first matchup since 2017. The Bulldogs improve to 3-3-2 (1-0-1 SCAC) while the YellowJackets fall to 1-3-4 (0-1-1 SCAC).
Sophomore Evan Pachecho (San Antonio/Central Catholic) scored the lone goal of the game, his fourth of the season. Freshman
Jesus Carrillo (San Antonio/Reagan) collected the assist, his second of the season.
Freshman
Ernesto Avila (Houston/Humble) made one save in goal to record his third shutout of the season.
The Bulldogs outshot LeTourneau, 12-9, with a 6-1 edge in shots on goal. Texas Lutheran also had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
LeTourneau may have controlled the first half on paper outshooting the Bulldogs 6-4 but none of their six shots would be on target as the Bulldogs broke the scoreless draw in the 26th minute as
Evan Pacheco chipped one over the YellowJackets keeper in what would be the lone goal of the match.
Texas Lutheran took control in the second half, outshooting the YellowJackets 8-4 and holding a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks, but could not add to their 1-0 lead. The YellowJackets best opportunity came in the 57th minute but was turned away by Avila.
The Bulldogs will return home on Friday, Oct. 3, to take on University of the Ozarks (AR). Kickoff from Gustafson Field is set for 7:30 PM with the match being broadcast on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
