GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Playing its second-straight top 15 opponent in a three-day span, the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team (2-3-1) dropped a tightly contested 1-0 decision to No. 13 Southwestern (5-0-1) Sunday afternoon in Georgetown.
In goal, freshman
Ernesto Avila (Houston/Humble) recorded eight saves in the first half and allowed just one goal to provide the Bulldogs offense an opportunity to equalize heading into the break. He finished the contest with a career-high 13 saves, the second most in a match in program history - only trailing the 19 saves from Michael Roell against Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2011.
The lone goal of the afternoon came in the 42nd minute.
The Pirates outshot the Bulldogs, 19-9, including a 14-7 edge in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs conclude non-conference play 2-3-1 and will return to action on Friday, September 26, traveling to Sherman to face Austin College. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 PM and will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
