Volleyball Bounces Back with Sweep of LaGrange

The Bulldogs bounced back with an emphatic sweep of the Panthers on Saturday

ROME, GA -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball, who has had one of the hardest strengths of schedule in the country to open the season, bounced back to end their five-match losing streak with a sweep of LaGrange, 25-8, 25-18, 25-10, Saturday afternoon at the Cage Center on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

The Bulldogs (3-6) hit a season-high .346 while holding LaGrange to a minuscule .050 hitting percentage.

Maselina Tuufuli (Saint Hedwig/Steele) led the team with 11 kills and added two digs, while hitting .474. Following the conclusion of the tournament, Tuufuli was named to the Mount Berry Tournament All-Tournament Team. Briana Salvatierra-Moore (San Antonio/Antonian College Prep) had a great match with eight kills, hitting .615, while adding two digs. Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) also had eight kills.

Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) finished with seven kills and a block, while Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) had five kills, a team and career-high six aces, and 16 digs, also a career-high.

Addison Gallegos (Pleasanton/Jourdanton) dished out 17 assists, while also finishing with seven digs and an ace. Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera) had a team-high 19 digs and finished with five assists.

The Bulldogs hit .419 in the opening set and steamrolled the Panthers by an overwhelming score of 25-8, led by four kills from Lozano-Lomeli. The Bulldogs served tough in the opening set, finishing the set with four aces.

LaGrange started well in the second set and got out to an early 5-2 lead before Texas Lutheran battled back to tie the set 9-9. A 7-2 run from the Bulldogs gave them some distance as they pulled away for a 25-18 win. Tuufuli led the Bulldogs with four kills in the second set.

Tuufuli and the Bulldogs carried their hot start into a sweep as Tuufuli finished the match with five kills in a final set that saw TLU hit a match-high .429 to complete the sweep.

After a nine-match road trip to start the season, Texas Lutheran will head home to Seguin for their home and SCAC opener against Colorado College on Friday, Sept. 19 at 3 PM at Memorial Gymnasium.
