TLU Drops Close Game to St. Thomas in SCAC Semifinals

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 4 ranked and top-seed Texas Lutheran Softball dropped its second game of the season in the SCAC Tournament semifinals, losing 3-2 to two-seed St. Thomas.

It marks just the fourth loss in the SCAC Tournament in program history with the last coming to St. Thomas in 2023.

The fourth installment between the two teams lacked no drama, with the teams exchanging runs in the fifth and combining to strand 17 runners.

St. Thomas got on the board first in the fifth with three runs on two hits - the only runs they would score on the night.

Texas Lutheran (38-2) got on the board with an RBI triple from SCAC Co-Player of the Year, Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton). A single from Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) allowed Kay to race home.

Texas Lutheran left five runners on base over the course of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings with three being stranded in scoring position. In total, the Bulldogs left six runners in scoring position Saturday night.

Clark, Gonzalez, and Kay paced the Bulldogs at the plate with two hits each, while Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) took her first loss of the season in the circle, moving to 19-1. White went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks to two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs now move to the Loser's Bracket and will face the winner of No. 3-seed Trinity and No. 6-seed Centenary at Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 PM with the game being streamed on FloSports. The winner of the 12:30 game will advance to the SCAC Championship and will have to beat St. Thomas twice.
