ABILENE, Texas -- No. 4/5 Texas Lutheran completed the sweep of McMurry on Saturday in Abilene, winning game three by a final of 7-0.
Texas Lutheran finishes the regular season 37-1 and 29-1 in conference play, securing their 11th consecutive regular season title on Friday. With the win, the Bulldogs pushed their win streak to 21 games and marked the Bulldogs sixth straight sweep to close the season.
The Bulldogs were powered by a combined 7-for-7 effort from Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton), a two-run homer from Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody), and a five-strikeout performance from senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) in the circle.
TLU outhit their conference foe 41-18 on the weekend.
On Saturday, Kay put the Bulldogs up early with a sacrifice fly to score Clark in the first inning.
In the third inning, Clark would score for the second time following a McMurry error on a double steal before Serena Gonzalez hit a two-run home run, her tenth of the season. With the home run, Gonzalez became the first Bulldog in program history with multiple double-digit home run seasons with her also hitting ten homers her freshman season to establish the program's freshman home run record. Also with her home run, Gonzalez tied Ashley Jacobsen (2012-15) for third on the program's career RBI list with 121 in her career.
In the top of the fourth, Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) stole home on a double steal to extend the Bulldogs lead to 5-0.
TLU brought in their final runs of the game in the sixth inning from an RBI double from Clark and an RBI single from Kay.
White tossed her ninth complete game of the season, striking out five for her fourth shutout of the season to move to 19-0 on the year.
Annie Kay paced TLU at the plate in a 3-for-3, two RBI showing. Clark finished 4-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored, and five stolen bases. The five-stolen base game is the fifth time in Clark's illustrious career that she stole five or more bases in a single-game.
On the season, the Bulldogs are outscoring opponents 283-55. In the circle, TLU holds a team ERA of 0.99 which ranks second in NCAA Division-III. For the season, Texas Lutheran has stolen 212 bases to lead NCAA Division-III with Caelee Clark (59) and Annie Kay (55) sitting in first and second nationally on an individual level.
The Bulldogs clinched the No. 1 seed for the 2025 SCAC Softball Championship Tournament next weekend, May 2-4, at Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University. The Bulldogs will get the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed game and play on Friday at a time to be determined. The championship will take place on Sunday, May 4.
