SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball picked up a big series-opening win, 7-4, over #RV McMurry on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field. The Bulldogs (21-10, 14-8 SCAC) will now look to clinch the series and a major tiebreaker in the SCAC Tournament race on Saturday.

Nolan McInvale (Poth/Poth) was solid on the mound, pitching 7.1 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits to earn his fourth win of the season. He departed with the game with the Bulldogs leading 7-4 in the eighth.

Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored, while Kameron Miller (Kenedy/Kenedy) finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) pitched 1.2 innings of stellar relief to pick up his third save of the season. He allowed no hits in his outing and finished with two strikeouts in the game. Sprencel, who started the game at third base, also drove in a run and scored a run to go along with a 1-for-3 day at the plate.

The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead with an infield single from Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) and a run scoring on a double play in the second inning.

Sprencel's RBI single in the third extended the Bulldogs lead to 3-0.

Texas Lutheran continued to pour it on in the fourth as an RBI double from Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) and an RBI single from Durkin brought the game to a 5-0 score.

The War Hawks scratched two runs across in the fifth to shrink the TLU lead to 5-2.

A two-run homer from Peavy capped the scoring for the Bulldogs in the sixth.

The War Hawks attempted to rally in the eighth with two more runs but Sprencel would shut down the War Hawks offense for the remainder of the game.

Texas Lutheran and Austin College will close out the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Katt-Isbel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 & 4 PM.
