BUFFALO, NY -- No. 2-seed Texas Lutheran acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 7-seed Calvin University on Thursday at Buffalo State Sports Arena in Buffalo, New York, 228.400 to 178.700, in the Quarterfinals of the 2025 NCATA Division-III Tournament in what was a first-time ever matchup between the two programs.
The Bulldogs (5-3) beat the Knights (0-8) by 49.7 points for the win, only dropping three heats in the entire meet.
Starting off the meet, Texas Lutheran had a Compulsory score of 31.50. A score of 8.425 was garnered in Acro, 9.30 in Pyramid, 9.075 in Toss and a 4.70 in Tumbling. Headed into the second event, TLU was up 11.05 points to Calvin's 20.45 score.
Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Texas Lutheran had a score of 8.65 in Heat 1 (5-Element), 8.00 in Heat 2 (6-Element) and 8.35 in Heat 3 (7-Element) of Acro to total 25.00 for the event. The Knights had scores of 7.625, 6.375 and 7.050 respectively, for a total of 21.050.
In the Pyramid event, the Bulldogs earned a 9.725 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, TLU earned a 9.225, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bulldogs scored 9.725. Calvin totaled 21.375 for the event and had a score of 62.875 going into halftime, the Bulldogs up by 22.3 points.
In the Toss Event, Texas Lutheran had scores of 8.975, 8.100 and 7.550, respectively, to total 24.625 for the event. The Knights scored a 6.525, 7.275 and 7.775, respectively, to total 21.575.
Despite the Knights winning two heats, the Bulldogs continued to pull away by winning the tumbling event, 46.050-41.900. The tumbling event was highlighted by a 9.3 out of 9.55 from Gracen Bunch (Georgetown/Georgetown) in the aerial pass, a 7.775 out of 8.00 from Genna Crafts (Elgin/Elgin) in the 6-element, and a 9.35 out of 9.55 from Phoenix Cosley (Round Rock/Hendrickson) in the open pass.
In the Team event, Texas Lutheran earned a score of 72.550 while the Knights earned a 52.35, bringing the meet score to a total 228.400 to 178.700, TLU taking the win.
The Bulldogs face the winner of tonight's meet between No. 3 seed Concordia-Wisconsin and No. 6 seed Buffalo State in the Semifinals on Friday at 11:45 AM CT/12:45 PM ET. All streaming links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
