SEGUIN, Texas -- Junior infielder Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) hit a 10th inning walk-off single to give #RV Texas Lutheran Baseball a 6-5 win over Howard Payne on Wednesday at Katt-Isbel Field.
The Bulldogs (8-4) trailed 5-4 in the ninth inning before Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) scored on a Howard Payne wild pitch to tie the game up 5-5 and send it into extra innings.
Texas Lutheran will return to SCAC play on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field against Ozarks (AR) with the doubleheader starting at 3 PM. The entire series will be streamed on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links available on tlubulldogs.com.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Bulldogs quickly recorded two outs before Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point) was hit by a pitch and Aidan Spires (Fort Worth/Arlington Heights) and Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) hit infield singles to the shortstop to load the bases. Chase Bourgeois came through with the game-winner with a single to right center. Bourgeois finished 3-for-6 with a triple and two RBI.
Vlario Prado (New Braunfels/San Marcos) pitched six innings in relief, only allowing one unearned run on two hits for the first win of his collegiate career. Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch) had his longest outing of the season, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing three runs on two hits.
Howard Payne scored two runs in the top of the second off a two-run home run and added another run in the third via a solo home run to take a 3-0 lead.
Texas Lutheran got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth after a leadoff walk to Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) hit a two-run home run, his fourth home run of the season.
Howard Payne scored two more runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 5-2.
The Bulldogs got another run back in the fifth inning on an RBI triple from Chase Bourgeois to cut the lead to 5-3. An RBI double from Chance Greene doubled down the left field line brought the game to 5-4 in the sixth ahead of the late inning rally for the Bulldogs.
