SEGUIN, Texas –- Texas Lutheran came up short in their final game of the weekend, falling to Concordia (TX) 79-67 on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium in a battle for the quintessential third spot in the SCAC Gold Division.
Trey Blackmore (San Antonio/Cole) led the Bulldogs with 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) finished with 16 points while leading the team with eight rebounds and two assists. Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) joined them in double figures with 12 points and three assists.
In a first half that saw just three lead changes and one tie, the Bulldogs took a four-point lead into the halftime break led by 12 points from Blackmore.
It was a back and forth first half that saw TLU take a one-point, 36-35, lead into the halftime break led by ten points from Edwards. Fouls and turnovers doomed the Bulldogs in the second half. The Tornados would outscore the Bulldogs 46-30 in the second half, forcing 11 TLU turnovers. The Tornados lead remained in the single digits until they finally began to pull away from the Bulldogs in the final 6:30 of the game.
The Bulldogs fall to 6-13 and 4-6 in SCAC play while Concordia improves to 7-10 and 4-6 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Friday, Feb. 7, as they face the first-place, rival Trinity Tigers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM with a fan theme of Pink Out. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
