SEGUIN, Texas -- Junior Zach Faiq (Round Rock/Stony Point) scored the game-winner in the 68th-minute for the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team in a 1-0 victory over McMurry Friday night at Gustafson Field as the Bulldogs debuted new kits. The Bulldogs improve to 7-4-2 while McMurry falls to 2-11-1.

Texas Lutheran also improves to a conference leading 5-1-1 in SCAC play and hold a narrow lead at the top with 16 points.

Faiq's goal was the culmination of a strong Bulldogs attack all game as they outshot McMurry, 20-2, and held an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also took 10 corner kicks compared to just one from the War Hawks.

After a relatively uneventful first half, the Bulldogs kept the pressure on with 10 more shots and five more corner kicks.

The Bulldogs had a few chances including a pair of headers from Raymond Palmer (San Antonio/Clark), but they were turned away from the War Hawks defense. The only two shots from McMurry came in the first half.

In the 68th minute, Alex Hart (Missouri City/Ridge Point) sent a free kick into the box for Faiq to head in to break the scoreless draw.

The Bulldogs will be back on the pitch on Sunday Oct. 19 as they welcome the Schreiner Mountaineers to Gustafson Field. The match is scheduled for 2 PM with the match acting as Senior Day for the Bulldogs as they will recognize ten seniors. The match will be broadcast on FloCollege.
