SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell to No. 24/25 Hardin-Simmons, 67-58, in Friday night's 2024-25 season opener inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Angelina Sotelo (San Marcos/San Marcos) finished with 13 points each, combining to go 13-for-13 at the line. Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) ended with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs started slow - shooting 26.7% - but only trailed 17-16 after the first period. The Cowgirls offense came alive in the middle part of the game scoring 36 points on 40.4% shooting while Texas Lutheran's struggles continued, shooting 21 percent over the span of the second and third periods to trail by 15 entering the fourth.
TLU showed signs of life in the fourth with their best stretch of basketball on the night, scoring 20 points on 43.8% shooting to close the season opener. TLU chipped away at the Cowgirls lead but never came closer than the final nine-point deficit.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Saturday, Nov. 9, as they face Howard Payne, in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 4 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
