SHREVEPORT, LA -- Texas Lutheran women's basketball kept rolling as they extended their conference winning streak to six games and overall streak to four games on the strength of Ashley Reyes (Karnes City/Karnes City) matching her career-high of 14 points off the bench in a 63-49 victory over Centenary Monday night at the Gold Dome in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Reyes tallied 14 points - matching her career-high from a February 2021 contest against Austin College - shooting an efficient 7-of-10 from the floor. Morgan Rodriguez (New Braunfels/Canyon) nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) completed Texas Lutheran's double-figure scorers - each tallying 10 points and six rebounds. Texas Lutheran committed a season-low nine personal fouls.
With Texas Lutheran facing a 13-12 deficit at the 2:46 mark in the first quarter, Mulkey converted a three-pointer on Texas Lutheran's next possession to push the Bulldogs ahead 15-13. The two teams would tie 15-15 after the opening 10 minutes before the Bulldogs would hold the Ladies of Centenary College to just seven points in the second quarter and take a 32-22 lead into the half.
The Ladies would open the third quarter with a 10-3 run, but a Jenesis Navarro (San Antonio/Lee) three and Ashley Reyes layup on back to back possessions would keep the Ladies at bay. The Ladies would hang around - outscoring the Bulldogs 19-13 in the third quarter bringing the Bulldogs lead to 45-41 through three quarters.
The Bulldogs would hold the Ladies scoreless to begin the fourth - opening the quarter on a 10-0 run over the course of the first 5:34 of the fourth quarter. Texas Lutheran stayed in control from there, limiting the Ladies to eight points in the quarter and their lead never dipping below 10 points the rest of the way.
Texas Lutheran is back in action on Friday (Jan. 28th), returning to Memorial Gymnasium to face the Pirates of Southwestern University. Tip-off is currently scheduled for 7:30 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
