SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball fell to Cal Lutheran in five sets Friday afternoon in their first match in the Trinity National Invitational. The Bulldogs took sets one and four while the Regals won sets two, three, and five.
The Bulldogs fought hard, especially for having played another five-set match two days prior.
The Regals defense held the Bulldog offense to a .161 attack percentage at Calgaard Gymnasium, and while the Bulldog defense played hard as well, Cal Lutheran was able to transition from defense to offense more often than the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs won the first set and made a late run to nearly steal the third set but Cal Lutheran was able to hang on and win 23-25, 20-25, 23-25, 25-18, 9-15.
Junior Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) led the Bulldogs with 14 kills, freshman Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) added 11 kills along with 16 digs for her first collegiate double-double. Junior Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) had 20 assists and Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) led with a team high 36 digs.
The Bulldogs move to 6-3 and will wrap up their stint in the Trinity National Invitational vs. Chapman University at 5 PM in Calgaard Gymnasium on the campus of Trinity University.
