SAN ANTONIO -- Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer took an early 1-0 lead over Trinity, but the Tigers responded with three first-half goals to post a 3-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon over the Bulldogs.
TLU fell to 2-5-1 overall and to 2-3-1 in the SCAC.
Trinity moved to 6-0 overall and to 5-0 in the SCAC.
Samantha Martinez, a junior forward from Schertz, Texas (Clemens), gave TLU the early advantage with a strike from 25 yards that found the upper-right corner.
The ball arrived at Martinez's right foot off a deflection. Martinez pounced on the deflection, striking the ball on the first touch and delivering it into the Trinity net.
The goal was Martinez's team-leading fourth of the season. She took five shots Saturday against Trinity.
Trinity scored the equalizer in the 10th minute with a shot from Kaity Ward. Lindsey Peng provided the assist.
Ward scored again, this time in the 13th minute, off a feed from Nyah Shepherd.
The first two Trinity goals came off set pieces. The first goal occurred after a corner. The second came off a free kick.
Mary Sheridan put the Tigers ahead 3-1 in the 25th minute. Shepherd collected her second assist.
Trinity out-shot TLU 29-9. The Tigers were held scoreless in the second half despite out-shooting the Bulldogs 14-2 in the final 45 minutes.
Elana Rivera made eight saves in goal for TLU.
TLU concludes the SCAC regular-season next Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. road match at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
