VICTORIA, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball registered a 7-5 loss and an 8-0 five-inning victory Tuesday afternoon on the road against the University of Houston at Victoria.
TLU's overall record stands at 9-4 after the two non-conference games. UHV, out of the NAIA, is 4-10.
In game one, TLU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings, but the Jaguars put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, 5-4.
The Jaguars scored two more runs in the sixth.
TLU scored a run in the seventh and had the go-ahead run at the plate, but UHV stopped the Bulldogs' scoring threat to secure the win.
In game two, the Bulldogs scored a run in the first and then four runs in the third.
Haley Padilla hit a two-RBI single in the third, and TLU scored a pair of runs on errors.
TLU added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put the run-rule in play.
Sydney Ouellette kept UHV scoreless in the fifth and completed the three-hit shutout. She improved to 4-2 on the year.
Ouellette struck out one, walked one, and surrendered just three singles.
In the early game,
Kelly Jurden, Martin, Snow and
McKay Bloxham each had two hits. Bloxham drove in a pair of runs. Martin had two steals.
The Bulldogs return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Friday and Saturday with a three-game series in Sherman, Texas against Austin College. The first game of Friday's doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. Saturday's single game will start at 11 a.m.
