SHREVEPORT, La. --
Cole Irby delivered the go-ahead double in the 10th inning to lift the sixth-ranked Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to an 11-10 road win Friday night over the Centenary College (La.) Gents.
Irby (Buda/Hays) brought home freshman shortstop
Joe Jimenez (San Antonio/Johnson) with the winning run in the top of the 10th, and freshman left-hander
Matthew Hickey (Houston/Klein Collins) capped three innings of hitless relief with a scoreless bottom of the 10th to secure the win.
The Bulldogs improved to 22-8 overall and to 7-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with their third straight victory.
Centenary fell to 16-18-1 overall and to 8-5 in the SCAC.
Hickey improved to 4-0 with the pitching victory. He struck out two and walked three.
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) collected three hits, drove in three and scored a run for TLU.ÂÂ
The Bulldogs recorded 14 total hits. Centenary had 17.
TLU had two hits each from
Nick Gardoni (Salinas, Calif./Palma),
Tyler Cauley (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill),
Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Frenship), and
Trey Albaugh (Tomball/Concordia Lutheran). Cauley also walked two times and stole a base.
Austin Colon (La Grange/La Grange), Curtis, and Jimenez each scored a pair of runs. Colon stole two bases.
The Bulldogs and Gents play a Saturday doubleheader that has been moved from a 1 p.m. start to a 4 p.m. start because of rain in the forecast. The series is being played at Centenary's Sheehee Stadium, located on the Centenary campus in Shreveport.
