SHERMAN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs defeated Austin College 10-1 and 11-0 on Saturday afternoon to complete a four-game sweep of the Kangaroos.
All four games in the series were won by TLU via the eight-run rule. All four games ended after five innings.ÂÂ
TLU ran its streak of run-rule games to nine and its overall win streak to nine.
The Bulldogs improved to 21-5 overall and to 15-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Austin College fell to 0-27 overall and to 0-16 in the SCAC.
TLU jumped to an 8-0 lead through two innings in the first game Saturday.ÂÂ
Skylar Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and
Erica Garcia (Deer Park/Deer Park) produced two RBI.
Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) registered two hits, two runs scored, and three stolen bases, and
Madisyn Cates (Baytown/Sterling) had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Kayla Oliveira (San Diego, Texas/San Diego) pitched four shutout innings and surrendered just two hits. The junior right-hander moved her pitching record to 8-2.
In game two,
Chassety Raines (Spring/Klein Collins) allowed just one hit in four innings. She struck out four and did not walk a batter. Raines, a freshman right-hander, improved to 4-0.
The Bulldogs scored five runs in the fifth.
Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland) hit a grand slam, inside-the-park home run in the fifth.
Martin, the starting second baseman and a true freshman, drove in a career-best five and raised her team-leading batting average to .484.
Martin was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
DeAnna Hernandez (Sugar Land/ Dulles) reached base three times with two hits and a hit-by-pitch. Hernandez scored three times
Alyssa Cantu (Baytown/Sterling) added a pair of RBI, and
Kali Chatham (Moody/Moody) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
TLU takes a break from SCAC play with its next doubleheader. The Bulldogs head to Belton, Texas to face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Thursday.
