Texas Lutheran upsets No. 2 seed Austin College, plays for SCAC title Sunday

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, a year removed from not making the conference tournament, will play for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday after defeating No. 2 seed Austin College 72-68 Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs will face three-time defending champion and this year's top seed, the Trinity Tigers. Trinity defeated Colorado College 65-61 in the day's first semifinal.

TLU, the 2014 SCAC Champion, will play in its third SCAC final in six years. The Bulldogs and Tigers met for the 2014 and 2017 titles.

In the win over Austin, the Bulldogs used a 25-10 edge in the fourth quarter to edge the Kangaroos. TLU trailed by 14 in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, TLU hit four of its five three-point attempts and made 9-for-11 at the free throw line. Austin College shot 3-for-13 in the fourth and was 0-for-5 from the arc.

Dominique Campos (Laredo/Alexander) led TLU in scoring with 23 points. Campos made eight of her 16 shots and added three made three-pointers.

Tara Molina (San Antonio/Johnson) chipped in 19 points, five rebounds and three assists. Abby Hroch (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) pulled down a team-best seven boards and added eight points.

Kacie West led Austin College with 24 points. She hit six three-pointers. Bryce Frank, the SCAC Player of the Year, was held to 12 points. She collected 14 rebounds and had a block and a steal.
