SEGUIN, Texas -- Thirteenth-ranked Texas Lutheran split a home non-conference doubleheader with Concordia Texas on Tuesday evening.
At TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium - Morck Softball Field, the Bulldogs fell 3-2 in the first game before taking the late game 8-0 in five innings.
TLU's overall record now stands at 3-1. Concordia has a 2-2 overall record.
In the early game, Concordia scored three runs in the second inning and made it stand up against the Bulldogs.
Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh, TLU's
Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) homered to cut the CTX lead to 3-2.
TLU then proceeded to load the bases with two outs. A fly ball to center ended the game. TLU left eight on base in the contest.
Simone Langland tossed a complete-game four-hitter for the Tornados. She struck out one and worked around five walks.
Kayla Oliveira (San Diego, Texas/San Diego) took the loss for TLU. Oliveira (0-1) allowed four hits, three runs (all earned) and three walks. She struck out one.
In game two, the Bulldogs scored on a bases-loaded walk by
Sarah Metzer (Sugar Land/Dulles) in the first and broke the game open with a five-run third.
Kelsie Stone (Helotes/O'Connor) tossed a five-hit shutout in the second game to improve to 2-0. Stone scattered five hits and did not issue a walk.
Madisyn Cates (Baytown/Sterling) had two hits and drove in two in the second game. Roche was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
DeAnna Hernandez (Sugar Land/Dulles) recorded a pair of hits and scored two runs. She also drove in a run.
The Bulldogs don't play again until a 1 p.m. home doubleheader on Feb. 23 against the University of Houston at Victoria.ÂÂ
