SHERMAN, Texas -- Conference-leading Austin College withstood a strong challenge from Texas Lutheran and pulled away late for a 77-61 home win Saturday afternoon.
The Kangaroos improved to 12-3 overall and to 5-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
TLU dropped to 9-7 overall and to 5-2 in the SCAC.
Bulldog junior guard
Jordan Estrada (Marion/Marion) hit a career-best six three-pointers and scored a career-high 22 points in 23 minutes of action. Estrada went 8-for-9 from the field and 6-of-6 from the three-point line.
With the Bulldogs down by as many as 14 in the second quarter, Estrada sparked the Bulldogs by hitting four three-pointers (on four attempts) and another bucket in the final 5:25 of the first half.
Estrada pulled TLU within seven points in the fourth quarter with her sixth three-pointer of the afternoon. Austin College led 56-49 with 9:33 to play in the game.
Seven points would be as close as TLU would get in the fourth quarter. Austin College went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to force a TLU timeout.
Kacie West scored 19 points off the Austin College bench to lead the Kangaroos. West made five shots from the three-point line.
Austin College preseason All-American post Bryce Frank added 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Abby Hroch (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) was the only other Bulldog to hit double figures for TLU. She scored 11 points and contributed seven rebounds.

Tara Molina (San Antonio/Johnson) registered eight rebounds, eight assists and six points.
TLU was out-rebounded 52-38.
The Bulldogs return to action at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against Southwestern University.
