Bulldogs fight off Austin College challenge for 78-60 road win


SHERMAN, Texas --  Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball shook off an eight-point first half deficit and used a 42-33 advantage in the second half to hold off the Austin College Kangaroos 78-60 Saturday night at Hughey Gymnasium.

TLU senior Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) tallied another double-double, his second of the season, with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jowell made 7 of his 13 shot attempts, and went 3-for-5 from the free throw line. 

Jacob Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor), Alex Cage (Austin/McNeil) and Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Texas State) chipped in 14, 14 and 11, respectively, and Jackson Willoughby (Port Aransas/Port Aransas) added 10. 

Cage and Josephs each dished out four assists and had two steals. Willoughby pulled down eight rebounds as Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) grabbed five rebounds to go along with his eight points. 

TLU hit 42.9 percent of its total shots. 

The Bulldogs held the 'Roos to 33.9 percent shooting from the field and allowed just 1-of-13 attempts from beyond the arc in the game. TLU turned 15 offensive rebounds into 15 second chance points, compared to just four second chance points for the 'Roos. Overall, the Bulldogs held a 46-33 rebounding edge in the game.

 TLU improved to 10-6 overall and to 5-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs currently sit in second in the conference standings, following the Southwestern University Pirates. The Bulldogs and the Pirates face each other at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Georgetown, Texas.

AC dropped to 6-9 overall and to 2-4 in the SCAC.
