SEGUIN, Texas -- No. 12 Texas Lutheran and No. 1 Trinity split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Friday afternoon with TLU taking a 8-4 early game and Trinity posting a 5-3 victory in the later contest.Â
The Bulldogs' record now stands 21-6 overall and 3-3 in conference. The Tigers are 19-2 overall and 8-1 in the SCAC.Â
Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) improved to 6-1 with eight innings of work. Malinovsky scattered seven hits and struck out 12. He allowed four runs (two earned).Â
Tyler Cauley (Baytown/Barbers Hill) went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one stolen base, and
Andrew Whitten (Houston/Spring Woods) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.Â
Ben Marvin (Kingwood/Kingwood) collected two hits, scored one run, and drove in one run in the first game.Â
In the late game, Trinity rallied from 3-1 deficit in the seventh to win 5-3 in the nine-inning contest. The Tigers scored a single run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth.Â
The Bulldogs collected 20 hits in both games - 9 in the early contest and 11 in the later game.Â
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell),
Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Midland JC), Varner and Cauley each produced two hits for TLU.Â
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale),
Keaton Boysen (Scottsdale, Ariz./Gateway CC), and Cauley each drove in a run.Â
The Bulldogs hit the road for their next contest Tuesday against University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Belton, Texas.Â
