SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball's 2018 season came to a close Friday night as the Bulldogs fell short of a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament berth in a 64-62 road loss to Southwestern University.ÂÂ
TLU finished 8-17 overall and 4-10 in the SCAC. The Pirates moved their record to 12-13 overall and to 8-6 in conference.ÂÂ
The Bulldogs either will finish in a tie for sixth, alone in seventh or in a tie for seventh in the final SCAC Women's Basketball standings. The top six teams make the conference tournament.
In a two-way tiebreaker with Schreiner and in a three-way tiebreaker with Schreiner and University of Dallas, TLU falls short of tournament qualification in all tiebreaker scenarios.
TLU needed a win Friday at Southwestern to remain alive for a tournament berth. A TLU win Friday against Southwestern and a Schreiner loss to Trinity on Saturday would have put TLU into the SCAC tournament as the No. 6 seed.
In Friday's win over TLU, Southwestern out-rebounded TLU 54-29 and used the huge rebound advantage to take 22 more field goal attempts. The Pirates had 30 offensive rebounds.
TLU shot 38 percent (19-for-50) from the field and went 10-for-23 (43.5 percent) from the arc for the game.ÂÂ
Abby Hroch (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) and
Cami Davis( Marion/Marion/UT-Tyler) paced the Bulldogs with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Hroch added three rebounds and a steal. Davis contributed two assists, a rebound and a steal.ÂÂ
Presley Stephens (Crandall/Crandall) pulled down an impressive 10 rebounds - four offensive and six defensive for TLU. She added four assists, two steals, and she scored three points.ÂÂ
Stacey Radtke (Marion/Marion) scored four points, grabbed three rebounds and posted the only block of the night for the Bulldogs.ÂÂ
Cecily Woolfolk led the Pirates with 25 points. She added 11 rebounds, two blocks and a steal.ÂÂ
Madison Edwards posted 11 points for SU to go along with her seven rebounds, three assists and a block.ÂÂ
