SEGUIN, Texas -- Sam Moore's three-pointer with less than 14 seconds to play lifted the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders to a 90-87 non-conference win over Texas Lutheran, Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium.ÂÂ
In the Bulldogs' season opener,
Nathan Josephs' (San Antonio/Texas State) driving layup tied the game at 87 with 54 seconds to play, Moore shot the game-winner from the center of the three-point line.ÂÂ
Jacob Kouremetis' (San Antonio/O'Connor) last-chance three-point attempt from mid-court was on target, but hit the right side of the rim just as the buzzer went off.
The Crusaders improved to 2-0 overall.ÂÂ
Kouremetis scored a team-high 22 points and added two assists and three rebounds. Josephs and
Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas High School) each tallied 15 points for the Bulldogs. Andrade added four assists to go along with his four rebounds and a steal.ÂÂ
Jackson Willoughby (Port Aransas/Port Aransas) and
Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.ÂÂ
UMHB pulled down 26 defensive rebounds and out-rebounded TLU 38-28 overall.ÂÂ
The Bulldogs finished the game with an overall shooting percentage of 47.9 percent. TLU went 13-for-36 (36.1 percent) from the three-point line.
The Bulldogs hit the road Monday for an exhibition road game in San Antonio, Texas against the University of the Incarnate Word. The game tips at 7 p.m. in the UIW Wellness Center.ÂÂ
