Townes nets 'golden goal' in 2OT as Bulldogs edge Schreiner 2-1


SEGUIN, Texas -- Junior defender Cameron Townes knocked home a golden goal in the second overtime to lift Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer to a 2-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Schreiner on Friday night. 
 
At TLU's Gustafson Field, Townes (Cypress/Cypress Ranch) scored in the 107th minute. The goal was assisted by Edgar Molina (Houston/Klein). The goal was Townes' first of the season. 
 
The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 overall and to 5-3 in conference play. The Mountaineers dropped to 3-9-2 overall and to 2-8-2 in the SCAC. 
 
TLU led in shots, 13-11, and held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. 
 
Nicolas Medina (Houston/St. Pius X) opened scoring in the 29th minute to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into the half. 
 
Juan Puente scored the equalizer at the 56:29 mark with a header to the top left corner.
 
Senior keeper Brendan Soto (Georgetown/East View) made seven saves for the Bulldogs. 
 
TLU heads to San Antonio for their next SCAC contest. TLU is set to face Trinity University 7 p.m. Tuesday at McGinley Soccer Field. The game originally was set for 5 p.m., but it has been moved to a 7 p.m. start.
