No. 6 Trinity edges Texas Lutheran 2-1 in overtime

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Sixth-ranked Trinity University received a goal from Jacob Hallenberger late in the first overtime to lift the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran.

Wednesday night at Paul McGinlay Field, the Tigers picked up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win and improved to 11-1-1 overall and to 9-1 in the SCAC.

TLU dropped to 6-5 overall and to 5-4 in the SCAC.

TLU broke through first Wednesday against the Tigers on a free kick from Guillermo Guerra (San Antonio/Brennan) in the 50th minute. The goal was Guerra's second of the season.

The Tigers answered in the 71st minute with a goal from Wesley Mitchell with an assist from Hallenberger.

Hallenberger's goal in the first overtime, at the 99:16 mark, was unassisted.

The two teams met on the pitch unofficially for the second time this season. The Bulldogs and Tigers had a "no contest" declared on Sept. 11 due to repeated lightning delays in Seguin. TLU had a 3-1 lead when the match was called off with 26:56 still to play in the second half.

Wednesday's meeting was the first action between the two since the "no contest." The "no contest" match will be made up at 7 p.m. Tuesday at TLU's Gustafson Field. The match starts at 0-0 with 90 minutes of regulation time to be played.

But before the Bulldogs face the Trinity Tigers again, the Bulldogs welcome the Colorado College Tigers to Gustafson Field on Friday evening. The conference match is set for a 7 p.m. start. TLU will have live video and live stats on tlubulldogs.com.
