Texas Lutheran rolls to 3-1 home conference win over JWU Wildcats

SEGUIN, Texas -- Cameron Townes and Luis Green each scored first-half goals to spark the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 3-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Johnson & Wales (Colo.) on Sunday.

TLU improved to 8-5 on the year and to 7-4 in the SCAC. JWU dropped to 5-7-1 overall and to 3-7-1 in conference play.

Townes (Cypress/Cypress Ranch) scored unassisted at the 5:31 mark off a rebound. The goal was Townes' third of the season.

Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the 27th minute. Townes registered the assist on the Green goal.

The Wildcats put a goal on the board in the 72nd minute with a shot from Lemi Abera.

Green knocked home a second goal with 82:20 elapsed in the match. The goal was assisted by Edgar Molina. The goal was Green's 13th of the season.

TLU out-shot JWU 25-4. Bulldog keeper Brendan Soto (Georgetown/East View) collected three saves.

TLU's next match is another SCAC contest, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at TLU's Gustafson Field against Trinity University. This will be third time "unofficially" this season for the Bulldogs and Tigers to face each other. The two teams had a "no contest" declared on Sept. 11 due to repeated lightning delays in Seguin. TLU had a 3-1 lead when the match was called off with 26:56 still to play in the second half.
