GEORGETOWN, Texas-- On day two of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the Group A Divisional, Texas Lutheran Volleyball fell to No. 5 Trinity in four sets 25-14, 25-20, 17-25 and to No. 2 Southwestern University in a tough 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-10 five-setter.
The Bulldogs fell to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.Â
Makenzie Griffin led the Bulldog squad in kills having 14 in the Trinity match and 18 against Southwestern.
Hannah Mikelonis was a close second, tallying 17 in game one and 14 in game two.Â
Cailey Young tallied two solo blocks and an additional five block assists in both matches combined. Griffin registered the only solo block for TLU in the match against Southwestern.Â
Jaci Chambers picked up a whopping 52 digs (25 against TU and 27 against SU). and freshmen
Kelly Jurden registered 23 (12 versus TU and 11 versus SU). Senior
Mathis Popelsky added 19 digs in the match against SU and nine against TU.
Jurden contributed 39 total assists for the two matches, and
Kionasina Nu'u added 52 for the Bulldogs.
SCACÂ play continues as TLU hosts the Cross-Divisional Tournament this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs take on Centenary College at 12:30 p.m. and University of Dallas at 5 p.m. on Susan Duke Court on day one of the tournament.Â
