TLU triumphs in season opener with 1-0 win v LeTourneau

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer triumphed over LeTourneau University with an early overtime goal for a 1-0 win at Gustafson Field in the season opener. 

With an assist down the left side from Cole Welker, senior David Ching nailed the game-winning shot to the near post to end the match with just 1:07 elapsed in overtime. 

In the opening half, the Bulldogs rattled off eight shots, but the the Yellow Jackets held them to only two shots on goal. LETU stayed steady with four shots, putting two on goal after TLU received a red card in the 41st minute leaving the Bulldogs a man down for the remainder of the match. 

Each team received 12 fouls during the match with TLU receiving three total cards (one red, two yellow) and LETU receiving one yellow card.

Ching led the team with seven shots while Guillermo Guerra followed with three total shots. Brendan Soto played strong all 91:07 in the goal and made a total of five saves.

TLU will hit the field again this Sunday at Gustafson Field, where they will take on East Texas Baptist University at 3 p.m.
