SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball pushed its overall win streak to 30 games with 12-1 and 11-0 victories over the University of Dallas Saturday at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium - Morck Softball Field.
TLU completed the four-game conference series sweep of the Crusaders. The Bulldogs improved to 30-4 overall and to 18-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Dallas dropped to 9-23 overall and to 4-12 in the SCAC.
Kaymee Gooden blasted a pair of two-run home runs in her first two at-bats of Saturday's first game. She walked in her other at-bat of the early contest and finished with four RBI and three runs scored.
In the late game, Gooden added three more hits and four RBI.
Amanda Lochte and
Maitlin Raycroft delivered pitching wins for the Bulldogs. Lochte improved to 12-1 with 3-1/3 innings of work in the five-inning first game. Lochte struck out three and allowed just one hit.
Raycroft took her pitching mark to 16-2 with a two-hit shutout. She recorded her 15th complete-game and 12th shutout in 15 starts. On Friday, she threw her seventh no-hitter of the season. On Saturday, she took a no-hitter into the fourth inning. She retired the first nine batters she faced, and she struck out seven of those nine.
Raycroft lowered her season ERA to 1.06. On Friday, she broke the TLU single-season record for strikeouts. She now had 174 Ks and just 19 walks in 105-1/3 innings of work. She is holding opponents to a .097 batting average.
Offensively for the Bulldogs,
Courtney Mica drove in three and had three hits, including a triple, in the early game. She also stole three bases.
Kirsten Whiteside had three stolen bases in the second game. She scored two runs in the 11-0 win.
For the day, TLU stole 17 bases. TLU entered the series leading all of NCAA DIII in stolen bases. The Bulldogs now have 152 stolen bases in 163 attempts. TLU stole 25 bases in the four-game series.
TLU closes out conference play next weekend in San Antonio with a four-game series against Trinity University. The Friday doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., and the Saturday doubleheader starts at noon.
