SEGUIN, Texas --
Maitlin Raycroft (Spring/Klein/Galveston College) made her first pitching appearance at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium a memorable one.
Raycroft, the junior transfer, spun her second straight no-hitter with a 13-strikeout, 1-walk performance in the Bulldogs' 3-0 victory Friday over Southwestern in the second game of the conference doubleheader.
The no-hitter is the 16th in school history. Raycroft's first TLU no-hitter, in her previous start against Huntingdon College (Alab.) on Feb. 19, came with a school-record 18 strikeouts. Raycroft has struck out 31 batters in her last two starts (14 innings of work).
Raycroft only missed a perfect game Friday because of a Southwestern walk in the second inning. Raycroft struck out the side in the first and the second innings. She ended the game with back-to-back strikeouts.
TLU, the three-time defending champion of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, swept both games of the SCAC doubleheader from the Pirates.
TLU improved to 6-4 overall and to 2-0 in the SCAC. Southwestern dropped to 3-9 overall and to 0-2 in the SCAC.
The two games for TLU Friday at Ed Kruse Stadium were the Bulldogs' first home games of the season. TLU played its first eight games on the road.
The Bulldogs took the early game 2-1 behind a complete-game three-hitter from senior right-hander
Amanda Lochte (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg). Lochte (3-1) struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
In the second-game win, TLU managed just three hits against Lindsey Longuet. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the third when
Kirsten Whiteside (Belton/Belton) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in foul territory.
Alyssa Cantu (Baytown/Sterling) scored on the play.
The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the sixth with a
Brayden Pinckard (Buda/Hays) groundout and a fake steal of third (with a runner still at third) that led to
Kyla Lockley (Wharton/Boling/Galveston College) beating a throw back to home.
In the early game, TLU jumped on the Pirates for two runs in the first inning with RBI doubles from
Kelsie McEachern (Atascocita/Huffman/UT Tyler) and
Nicole Snow (Tomball/Klein Oak).
TLU and Southwestern are scheduled to play a conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday in Georgetown, weather permitting.
