IRVING, Texas -- The University of Dallas erased an early 4-0 deficit and produced a 5-4 walk-off win in the ninth inning Saturday against Texas Lutheran.

Dallas scored in the ninth with the help of three TLU wild pitches. The final wild pitch brought the winning run home from third.

Dallas improved to 7-9 overall and to 1-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

TLU fell to 8-7 overall and to 0-1 in the SCAC.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first. Thomas Varner led off the game with a solo home run, the first of his collegiate career. The sophomore second baseman went 2-for-5.

In the first, the Bulldogs received RBI from Sami Resendez and Matthew Lemon. Resendez recorded an infield single to drive in Riley Schaefer, and Lemon doubled home Resendez.

TLU increased the lead to four in the second with an RBI single from Colby Schrade.

Nathan Malinovsky started for TLU and went seven innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) and struck out nine with three walks.

Game two of Saturday's planned doubleheader was postponed and moved to Sunday in Irving. Games two and three of the series will be played Sunday at Crusader Field. First pitch is set for noon.
