(All-Conference Teams listed below story)
SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior forward
Savannah Hight (San Antonio/Brandeis) was selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and she joined teammate and fellow senior
Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) on the SCAC All-Conference First Team.
Hight and Lye were named to the SCAC First Team for a second consecutive season. The two players are senior leaders for a group that has the most wins for a senior class in school history. Entering Saturday's semifinal game versus Austin College, the Bulldog senior class of 2016-17 has an overall mark of 74-32 (.698) and a conference mark of 45-11 (.803).
Senior guard
Cierra Jordan (Llano/Llano) made her first SCAC All-Conference Team. She was named to the Third Team.
Hight, a 5-for-10 small forward, averaged 13.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She often guarded the opposing team's best player. She concluded the regular season with 61 steals and 27 blocks.
Hight also shot 46.4 percent from the field, 43.9 percent from the three-point line, and 78.9 percent from the foul line. She has dished out a team-best 70 assists.
Hight is the first TLU player to be named SCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.
Lye claimed her second straight All-SCAC First Team appearance by leading the team in scoring, at 14.1 points per game, and by leading the Bulldogs in rebounding for a fourth consecutive season. This year, Lye pulled down 9.7 rebounds per game and has 13 double-doubles.
Lye, the 5-9 power forward, is shooting 45.0 percent from the floor and 78.6 percent from the free throw line. She also has 47 assists and 30 steals. Lye is a two-time selection to the SCAC All-Tournament Team, and she is a national nominee this year for Academic All-America and the Jostens Trophy.
Jordan is averaging a career-best 10.2 points and 4.2 rebounds as the team's starting shooting guard. She has hit a team-best 35 three-pointers and is shooting 37.6 percent from the arc.
Jordan is the SCAC leader in steals, with 71, and she has distributed 59 assists.
Jordan, Lye and Hight are four-year letter-winners and members of TLU's 2014 SCAC Regular-Season Championship, the 2014 SCAC Tournament Championship, and the 2015 SCAC Regular-Season Championship. The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship (first round) in 2014.
TLU entered Saturday's SCAC semifinal as the conference tournament's No. 2 seed. TLU posted a 20-5 regular-season record with a 10-2 mark in the SCAC. The Bulldogs finished one game behind Trinity in the regular-season standings and handed the eighth-ranked Tigers their lone regular-season loss - an 85-78 Bulldog win in Seguin on Jan. 14.
