Townes' goal in double OT provides game-winner for Bulldogs at Schreiner


KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore defender Cameron Townes secured the game winning goal off a pass from senior David Ching to send the Bulldogs to a crucial 2-1 conference win Sunday over Schreiner University.

With the Bulldogs fighting to make the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, the 2-1 road win moved the men's squad overall mark to 5-8-2 and 4-6-1 in conference. 

Schreiner dropped to 3-9-3 overall and 1-7-3 in SCAC play.

Townes' goal was his second goal this season, and sixth in his career for the Bulldogs. 

After a scoreless first half, Alejandro Martinez kicked off scoring for TLU in the 49th minute. The shot was unassisted and served as Martinez's third goal of the season. 

Eddie Martinez for the Mountaineers tied up the match when he scored an unassisted goal at 74:55, leading the men into overtime. 

TLU keeper Brendan Soto picked up three saves in the full 107:47 minutes of play. Brandon Anselmi for the Mountaineers registered two saves.

The Bulldogs head to Irving, Texas on Friday in their next conference match up against University of Dallas at 2 p.m.
