SEGUIN, Texas -- For the second consecutive weekend, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs secured a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series win against a Top 25 team.
After winning two of three on the road against then-No. 1 ranked Trinity, TLU took two of three from No. 14 Centenary, clinching the series victory with a 12-3 win Saturday afternoon at Katt-Isbel Field.
The Bulldogs, ranked 24th in the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA poll, produced 17 hits in the series finale and improved to 23-11 overall.
TLU's SCAC record jumped to 13-2. The Bulldogs have a two-game lead and the head-to-head tiebreaker over Trinity in the race to host the SCAC Tournament. TLU concludes the SCAC schedule with a three-game series at Southwestern next weekend.
Rayce Gatlin went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, and
Justin Law blasted a two-run home run, collected three hits and drove in three.
The Bulldogs 6-7-8-9 hitters -
Lincoln Baylor,
Austin Frick,
Eric Rabinowitz and Gatlin - combined to go 10-for-13 with eight runs scored and four RBI.
Baylor, one day after tossing a complete-game four-hitter, went 3-for-4 with two runs scores.
Austin Frick had two hits and scored three times.
Cody Rimko, the freshman right-hander, pitched into the sixth innings and notched the win. He improved to 4-3.
Aaron Milone and
Stephen Greenlees combined to pitch 2-2/3 innings of perfect baseball. The pair of left-handers retired all 11 batters they faced.
Centenary fell to 24-9 overall and to 9-6 in the SCAC.
TLU's next contest is a non-conference game Tuesday against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Game time is 7 p.m. in Belton, Texas.
