SHERMAN, Texas -- Senior midfielder, and Texas Lutheran student body president,
Vanessa Espinoza scored the game-winner, and freshman forward
Jaclyn Smolik scored twice as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs collected a 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road win Friday afternoon over Austin College.
Espinoza produced her first goal of the season with a shot in the eighth minute against the Kangaroos.
Claudia Trevino assisted on the goal.
Smolik added two goals late in the first half - the first at the 33:27 mark and the second at the 36:14 mark.
Jenna Vercolen assisted on the first Smolik goal, and
Tara Armstrong assisted on the second.
Erin Rose started in goal for TLU and picked up the goalkeeper win. She played 56:33.
Stephanie Barrientos played the final 33:27 and made four saves.
TLU out-shot Austin 20-17 and had a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-3-3 overall and to 3-2-2 in the SCAC.
Austin dropped to 3-8-1 overall and to 1-5-1 in the SCAC.
TLU next hits the road to Shreveport, La. for Sunday's 2 p.m. road match with Centenary (La.).
