ATLANTA -- Texas Lutheran defeated host Oglethorpe (Ga.) in three sets Friday evening after falling to No. 25 Hendrix (Ark.) in three sets in the afternoon.
TLU (10-10 overall) started the day at Oglethorpe with a matchup against nationally-ranked Hendrix. The Bulldogs lost 25-23, 25-11, 25-18.
Makenzie Griffin led TLU in the loss with five kills and two blocks.
Jaci Chambers recorded 20 assists, and
Kristin Fording and
Mathis Popelsky collected 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
In the evening match with host Oglethorpe, the Bulldogs won 25-11, 25-13, 25-14.
Mackenzie Zamarripa led the team with nine kills and four blocks.
Fording, TLU's senior outside hitter, added eight kills and an ace and went over the 1,000-kill mark for her career. Fording's sixth kill of the Oglethorpe match gave her 1,000.
Carlie Childres and
Emily Churchman posted seven and six kills, respectively. Chambers dished out 33 assists, and Popelsky and Fording registered 18 and 14 digs, respectively.
TLU continues its Georgia trip with Saturday matches at Berry College in Berry College, Ga. The Bulldogs face No. 25 Hendrix again, this time at noon at Berry, and then take on the host team at 5 p.m. All times are eastern.
