SHERMAN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs recorded four-set wins Friday over McMurry (Texas) and Linfield (Ore.) to start the 2015 season 2-0 at the Austin College Invitational.
TLU defeated former conference foe McMurry 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20 and then downed Linfield 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22.
Against McMurry,
Mackenzie Zamarrippa and
Kristin Fording combined for 26 kills and only seven errors. Zamarrippa hit .481 with 14 kills and one error in 27 attempts. Fording added 12 kills with six errors in 56 attempts. Fording contributed 18 digs, a solo block and two block assists.
Megan Dugie registered 29 digs, and
Kelcie Ingram dished out 31 assists.
Carlie Childres picked up eight total blocks (two solos, six block assists).
Childres added nine kills and made just one error to hit .421.
In the win over Linfield, Fording delivered 16 kills and 13 digs, and
Brette Threadgill added 12 kills and three blocks.
Dugie led the way with 19 digs, and Childres recorded four blocks (one solo, three assists).
TLU continues play in the Austin College Invitational on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match with Rust and a 1 p.m. match against Sul Ross State.
