SEGUIN, Texas -- Southwestern University shutout Texas Lutheran 2-0 Tuesday night in the first men's soccer night match at TLU's Gustafson Field.

TLU dropped to 3-1 overall and to 0-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Jake Swonke and David Arellano scored for the Pirates (1-5, 1-0 SCAC). Arrellano and Christian Lopez assisted on the Swonke goal, and Swonke and Curran Daniel assisted on the Arrellano goal.

Swonke scored in the 12th minute, and Arellano scored in the 60th minute.

TLU frantically tried to score over the final 30 minutes but could not find the back of the net. Southwestern keeper Ryan Benner made nine saves.

TLU held a slight shots advantage, 17-15, and had a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.

The Bulldogs now hit the road for a conference road swing through Centenary College of Louisiana (at 7 p.m. Friday in Shreveport, La.) and Austin College (at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Sherman, Texas).
