Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball wins sixth straight, keeps pace in conference race against Ladies

SHREVEPORT, La. â€" The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team won its sixth straight contest, and stayed within one game of first place in the SCAC with a 70-48 win on Friday night on the road against Centenary.

The Bulldogs outscored the Ladies 39-23 in the first half and never relinquished control after that. The win improved TLU's record to 14-8 overall and 9-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Centenary dropped to 0-23 overall and 0-13 in the SCAC.

Southwestern, the team ahead of TLU by just one game, defeated Colorado College on Friday. Both teams have two more games remaining. The Bulldogs and Pirates are set to meet in the season finale next weekend.

The Bulldog defense came to play on Friday night, holding Centenary to 25 percent shooting from the field for the game, the lowest field goal percentage an opponent has shot against TLU all year.

Four different Bulldogs finished in double-figure scoring on the night, with Bianca Casas (Edinburg, Texas) leading the way with 11 points in a well-rounded effort. The senior guard also racked up five assists, all coming in the first half, to go along with five rebounds.

Taylor Dydalewicz, Sarah Flournoy and Savannah Hight all scored 10 points. No Bulldog played more than 22 minutes in the game.

It was a career high for Flournoy (San Antonio, Texas). She scored all 10 of her points in the second half, playing all 14 of her minutes in the final frame. She finished 4-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc.

Texas Lutheran actually found itself trailing 17-14 nearly nine minutes into the game, but a 25-2 run in the next 10 minutes opened up a 39-19 for TLU with 1:20 to play in the first half.

The Bulldogs shot nearly 46 percent from the field in the first half, while holding Centenary to 28 percent. The defense also forced 11 Centenary turnovers in the first half. The Ladies finished the game with 20 turnovers.

The second half was not as efficient for TLU. The Bulldogs shot 27 percent from the field and were 3-of-15 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes of action. They finished 7-of-30 from deep for the game.

While the offense slowed down a bit in the second half, the TLU defense continued to smother the Centenary offense. The Ladies shot even lower in the second half, finishing 22 percent from the field in the final stanza.

Texas Lutheran will play its final road game of the season on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (CT) against Colorado College. Live video and live stats can be found via tlubulldogs.com.
