SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball secured a 62-59 home win Friday over LeTourneau University at the TLU Thanksgiving Classic.
In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, a potential game-tying three by LeTourneau rimmed out at the buzzer.
Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) and
Savannah Hight (San Antonio/Brandeis) scored 17 and 15, respectively, for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-2 overall.
Hight hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to give TLU the three-point edge.
LeTourneau dropped to 1-3 with the non-conference loss.
Lye went 5-for-11 from the floor, grabbed eight rebounds and hit seven of her nine foul shots. Hight also hit five of her 11 shots, collected seven rebounds and went 5-for-5 at the line.
As a team, the Bulldogs made 23 of 27 free throws and overcame an overall shooting percentage of 35.2 percent. The Bulldogs ended the game 19-for-54 from the field and 1-for-6 from the three-point line.
LeTourneau shot 29.9 percent from the field and went 3-for-18 from the arc.
Bria Goodman and Crystal Jones scored 11 and 10, respectively, for the YellowJackets.
TLU and LeTourneau each have games Saturday at the TLU Thanksgiving Classic.
LeTourneau faces Schreiner at noon, and TLU plays East Texas Baptist at 4 p.m.
