Women's Hoops gets balanced scoring in home win over 'Roos

SEGUIN â€" Texas Lutheran had four players score in double figures and avenged last week's tough loss with an 89-77 home win over Austin College on Friday evening.

The Bulldogs bombed from long range and took care of the ball to secure the win. They knocked down a season-high 10 3-pointers and turned the ball over a season-low six times. They also made a season-high 29 free throws.

The win improved Texas Lutheran's record to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The loss dropped Austin College to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the SCAC.

The Bulldogs were led, once again, by junior Taylor Dydalewicz (Dripping Springs, Texas). The SCAC's leading scorer poured in 19 points on 4-of-9 shooting. She made hay from the charity stripe, knocking down 9-of-10 from the line.

Senior Karisa Cantu (San Antonio, Texas) continually balanced between scorer and playmaker for the Bulldogs, scoring 16 points while dishing out seven assists.

Savannah High (San Antonio, Texas) enjoyed a strong performance, finishing with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting. She knocked down 2-of-4 from long range.

Bianca Casas (Edinberg, Texas) was the other Bulldog to finish in double figures, scoring 13 points on the strength of three 3-pointers.

Texas Lutheran shot 39 percent from the field for the game and 35 percent from long range. Austin College shot 53 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep.

The Bulldogs went into halftime with a nine-point lead on the strength of their offensive rebounding and defensive pressure. They notched eight offensive rebounds, while holding the 'Roos without an offensive rebound. TLU forced 11 Austin College turnovers in the first half and took care of it on the other end, turning it over just three times.

Those two factors allowed the Bulldogs to have that nine-point halftime lead despite shooting 35 percent from the field while Austin College shot 52 percent.

For the game, the Bulldogs racked up 12 offensive rebounds compared to just four for Austin College.

The Bulldogs opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers from Casas, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. The 'Roos battled back to tie things up 12-12 with 12:16 left in the first half.

A Cantu free throw capped off an 8-0 run for the Bulldogs to go back on top 20-12 with 9:27 to play in the half. The lead was pushed out to double digits for the first time after Bailey Champion's free throw made it 29-19 with 3:27 left.

Austin College opened the second half with the first bucket, but TLU answered with eight straight points to open up a 49-34 advantage with 16:39 to play. The run was capped off by a Casas jumper. After that run, the Bulldogs never let the lead shrink to less than nine, keeping the 'Roos at arms' length.

Texas Lutheran will be right back at it tomorrow when it plays host to the University of Dallas at 4 p.m. inside Memorial Gymnasium. Live video and live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
