Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

TLU Men's Basketball's late rally falls short in 77-72 loss at Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas â€" Texas Lutheran turned a late 12-point deficit into a one possession game with less than 30 seconds to play, but a late turnover with TLU holding the ball down three proved too much for the Bulldogs to overcome in a 77-72 road loss Friday to Schreiner.

At the brand new Schreiner Athletic Event Center, the Bulldogs dropped a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game for the first time under new head coach, and former Schreiner head coach, Jimmy Smith.

TLU fell to 8-7 overall and to 3-1 in the SCAC. Schreiner improved to 9-5 overall and to 2-1 in the SCAC.

Bulldog sophomore guard Jordan Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored a season-high 25 and hit six three-pointers for the Bulldogs.

Kouremetis made eight of 15 shots and six of his 11 three-point attempts. He added six rebounds.

Senior forward Donte McGee (Victoria/Memorial/Texas A&M-Kingsville) and freshman forward Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) each added 11 points for the Bulldogs. McGee collected eight rebounds, and Jowell registered seven rebounds.

Stevan Guerrero and Christian Pena each scored 18 for the Mountaineers.

The game was tied 33-33 at the half, but Schreiner seized control mid-way through the second half.

TLU turned Schreiner turnovers and missed free throws into a close game late. The Bulldogs had the ball with a chance to tie on a three-pointer after a pair of missed Schreiner free throws with 31 seconds to play.

On the final TLU possession, the Mountaineers picked off TLU's entry pass into the low post. Guerrero's final two free throws sealed the win for Schreiner.

TLU continues SCAC play Saturday with a 6 p.m. road game against defending conference champion Trinity.

TLU will have a live video webcast for the Trinity game from tlubulldogs.com.
