TYLER, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team made a late push to find a goal, but weather cut the game short in a 0-0 draw against East Texas Baptist on Friday afternoon.
Â
Play was halted in the 87th minute because of lightning in the area. The two teams tried to wait out the storm, but the game was eventually called a draw. The result moved the Bulldogs' record to 1-1-1 on the year. The Tigers moved to 0-1-2.
Â
The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 12-5 on the day and created four shots on goal compared to just one for ETBU. As the game grew later, the Bulldogs only ratcheted up the pressure. If not for a pair of big saves from Tiger keeper Juan Perales, the Bulldogs may have gotten a different result.
Â
In the 66th minute,
Alejandro Martinez (Round Rock, Texas) took a shot that was knocked away by Perales. Just a few minutes later, in the 72nd minute,
Gabe Sanchez (Round Rock, Texas) got another good chance, but was denied.
Â
Texas Lutheran recorded six shots in each half, but three of its four shots on goal came in the closing frame.
Â
Martinez was threatening all afternoon for the Bulldogs. The sophomore forward led the team with five shots, three of those on target.
Â
Junior
Jonathan Michael (Coppell, Texas) kept a clean sheet for TLU. He wasn't forced into too much action, but did make the necessary save the one time he was tested.
Â
The Bulldogs will get right back at it tomorrow with a 4 p.m. matchup on the road against LeTourneau. Live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
