Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer wins first conference clash of the season, shuts out Schreiner 2-0

KERRVILLE, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team received goals from Nathan Drouillard and Isaac Lopez, and a second straight shutout from Jonathan Michael, as it opened up SCAC play with a 2-0 road win over Schreiner on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-1-1 on the year with the win and 1-0 in conference play. Schreiner dropped to 2-1 with the loss and 0-1 in SCAC play.

Though it's still early, the TLU defense looks to be in midseason form, tallying its fourth shutout in five games to start the year. Jonathan Michael (Coppell, Texas) came away with the clean sheet, making three saves on the day.

Drouillard (San Antonio, Texas) scored the game-winning goal, notching his second goal of the season in just the 10th minute. The 6-6 freshman defender scored on a header off a pass from Lopez. It was Lopez's second assist of the young season.

The Bulldogs took that slim 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room, holding Schreiner to four shots total and just one shot on goal in the first half.

TLU stepped up the offensive pressure in the second half, taking seven shots. That increased pressure paid dividends for the Bulldogs when Lopez (Round Rock, Texas) scored in the 62nd minute to make it 2-0. The goal came off a penalty kick and was Lopez's second goal of the season.

The Bulldogs ended up with just two shots on goal in the game, but proved it truly is quality over quantity as both shots ended up as goals.

Michael has been solid in goal all season for the Bulldogs, having now allowed just three goals in five games. He's made eight saves on the year and boasts a gaudy 0.58 goals-against average.

Now that they've gotten the conference campaign off to a good start, the Bulldogs will look to continue that momentum when they play host to Centenary next Friday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. at Gustafson Field. Live video and live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
