GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs scored a 2-0 win and then fell 10-4 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday with the Southwestern Pirates.
Southwestern's doubleheader split Saturday secured a series win for the Pirates over the Bulldogs. Southwestern won 9-8 in 13 innings on Friday night.
Southwestern moved to 7-22 overall and to 3-8 in the SCAC with the Saturday split. TLU's overall record now stands at 18-10 overall and at 6-3 in the SCAC.
In the early game Saturday, TLU senior right-hander
Dwayne Snider (New Caney/New Caney) tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout in the seven-inning contest. Snider struck out eight and walked just one. He improved to 4-1 overall.
The Bulldogs gave Snider a run in the first and a run in the second.
Keaton Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) doubled in the first and scored on a
Derek Kanas (New Braunfels/Canyon) single. Bohrmann went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
In the second inning,
Zach Jacobs (Brenham/Brenham) reached on an error and moved to second on the error.
Mason Briscoe (Needville/Needville) drove home Jacobs with an RBI single.
In the late game Saturday, Southwestern broke open a scoreless game with an eight-run fifth inning. The Pirates sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame.
The Bulldogs cut the lead in half, at 8-4, with a four-run seventh inning.
Danny Brauckman (Austin/McNeil) pushed across a run with bases loaded walk, and Jacobs and
Tony Gennusa (Kingwood/Kingwood) each collected RBI singles.
The Pirates scored two more runs in the eighth to push the lead to 10-4.
Kellen McGriff (Humble/Humble) took the loss for the Bulldogs. He pitched 4-1/3 innings and allowed eight earned runs.
